Hi, I’m Dr. Jeanette Yamamoto, and in this video, I wanted to share a little about the work I do in pet hospice and end-of-life care. This can be an emotional topic, but it’s an incredibly meaningful part of veterinary medicine. My goal is to provide insight into what this care looks like and how we support pets and their families during these tender moments.
Each day, my team and I work closely with families to help them navigate the difficult decisions around their pet’s quality of life. Every situation is unique, and we take the time to listen, answer questions, and guide families through the process. When the time comes, we focus on creating a peaceful and loving environment so pets can be surrounded by comfort and familiarity in their final moments.
I also wanted to share a little about how I manage the emotional side of this work. Being present for families during such a sensitive time is deeply fulfilling, but it can also be heavy. To stay balanced, I make self-care a priority. For me, that means enjoying hobbies like cross-stitching, walking with my dogs, and spending time at the gym. My team and I also support each other, regularly checking in to make sure we’re all in a good mental space to continue providing the care our clients and their pets deserve.
This video is the first of many where I hope to answer questions and open up conversations about pet end-of-life and hospice care. If there’s a topic you’d like me to cover, feel free to share your ideas. Thank you for watching and for the love and care you show your pets—it’s truly inspiring.
