FAQ

Making the decision and scheduling our service

How far in advance do I need to schedule?

Typically, we need 24-36 hours to ensure we can give your family the time that is needed.

We are closed on Sundays and Wednesdays.

We do not provide after hours service.

How do I know that an end-of-life decision is appropriate?

During our phone consultation we will discuss your pet and their quality of life. Your vet may have told you definitively that it is time but in many cases it is you, the owner, who is going to need to make the decision based on your observations.  We can help by talking through the concerns you have to help you decide if it is an appropriate decision. There is typically not just a single aspect that will make your decision but rather a combination of factors which may include: your pet's able to move around, eating, pain level, breathing, ability to urinate/defecate, behavior and more. We often recommend  Quality of Life tests and calendars as helpful ways to determine your pet's QoL.

What areas do you service?

We provide services to the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas. A travel fee may be added based on your location. Service area map

Do you do in-home quality-of-life assessments?

We do not.  We provide phone consultations with one of our staff who will discuss your pet's current diagnosis and what concerns you are currently having.  We will do our best to guide and support you based on our expertise.

I'm worried I may be making this decision too soon. If Dr. Yamamoto feels euthanasia is not appropriate for my pet, will she tell me?

Absolutely.  Although rare, this does happen. If Dr. Yamamoto feels your pet's quality-of-life can be meaningfully improved by certain changes, she will discuss that with you. Please be aware there will be a fee assessed for the home visit/consultation in lieu of euthanasia .
